Emil Carlsen Oil on Canvas "Along the Shore..."

An oil on canvas painting by well-listed artist Emil Carlsen (1848-1932) titled Along the Shore, Port Washington, CA, circa 1888. Carlsen was a Denmark-born American Impressionist who is most well known for his waterscape, landscape, and still life works. Within a cool palette, the work depicts a wooden structure built along the shore and moored boats on grassy land with calm waters either at dusk or dawn. To the lower right, the item is signed by the artist in black paint. The piece is presented in a decorative gold tone frame. Hanging wire and a descriptive decal are present to the verso.

Condition

- scuffing present to the frame; canvas has been relined with strip lining along the edges to prevent frame rub; under UV light several areas of inpainting exist, the signature is untouched.
