An original mixed media on board portrait of astronaut Neil Armstrong by well-listed French artist René Brochard (born 1926). The painting uses oil paint, steel, sand, and pebbles to create a highly textured image; Brochard referred to this pieces as his ‘oil-steel’ paintings. The painting depicts famed astronaut descending from the steps of Apollo 11 onto the moon’s surface. The piece is signed and dated to the verso, where it is also noted as having been created at the French consulate in Los Angeles, California.
