Original Portrait of a Girl with Egg Basket Attributed to Thomas Jones Barker

Item Details

An oil on canvas portrait attributed to English genre painter Thomas Jones Barker (1815-1882). The painting depicts a half length portrait of a girl wearing a white scarf and red shawl with egg basket cradled in her arm. The work is unsigned, but attributed on verso with inscription over relined canvas and was executed in the 19th century. Additional inscriptions are present along the strip lining over the stretcher. Presented in a gilt and gesso frame with gallery decal and wire, and ready to hang.

Condition

- relined with canvas, even craquelure throughout, very light flaking to lower left. Frame with only minor scuffing to areas in extreme perimeter. Replaced stretcher keys on verso.
