A Susan Gertrude Schell engraving titled Logan Square Philadelphia. The piece features the Swann Memorial fountain in the foreground with the water rising from the water with a depiction of Cathedral Basilica of Saints Peter and Paul. Susan Gertrude Schell (1881-1970) was born in Titusville, Pennsylvania. Shell would graduate from West Chester State Teachers College and later at the Pennsylvania Institute of Fine Art from 1917 to 1920. Shell would be considered part of the Philadelphia Ten during the mid-1930’s to mid-1940’s. She would continue painting and taught for over thirty years at the Pennsylvania Museum of Industrial Art. She would pass away in 1970. The engraving is accented with a white matting and housed under glass with a silver tone frame.
Condition
Some staining present on the piece, wear consistent with age and use.
