Japanese Kyugetsu Doll and Silk Artwork
Item Details
A Japanese kyugetsu doll and a silk artwork. This handmade doll appears to be a representation of Yaegaki-hime (八重垣姫, Princess Yaegaki) from The Twenty-Four Paragons of Filial Piety, a Confucian classic that has been adapted for kabuki puppet theater. The doll is made of cloth with a stuffed wire frame, wearing an embroidered silk obi and a light tan kimono, and holding a samurai helmet in one hand, and decorative strings in another; she is presented on a wooden base with a decal to the underside that reads ‘Kyugetsu Doll; Tokyo Japan; Made in Japan’. The circular silk artwork depicts a leafy cherry blossom branch in bloom, with a butterfly above. The artwork is stamped within the field, and is presented against a green mat, in a gold tone beveled wood frame, with a wire affixed to the back for hanging.
