An antique ironstone platter ‘Boston Mails Edwards’. The maritime ‘Boston Mails Edwards’ is a limited edition brown transfer-printed ironstone platter, circa 1847s. The titled ‘Saloon’ tondo printed in the center features a ship interior perspective view, figures engaged in social and pleasant activities. The octagonal rim depicts images of the steamships ‘Caledonia’, ‘Columbia’ and ‘Britannia’ (were the first ocean liners built by the British and North American Royal Mail Steam Packet Company). This antique platter marked ‘Boston Mails Edwards’ with steamship image to verso. John Edvards(&Co), King St., Fenton. Staffordshire Potteries 1847 – 1900. John Edwards commenced potting at Longton, circa 1847s; he moved to Fenton, circa 1853s.

- consistent with age; no chips; some wear on the bottom.
