American Revolutionary War Era English Grandfather Clock

An American Revolutionary War era English grandfather clock. The antique clock made by Rich Howard of New Brentford, England dates to ca.1780. It features an 8-day long base, and the hood features a swan neck split pediment crown with rosettes, adorned with attenuated reeded pillars to each side, topped with gilt capitals. The front, sides and pedestal feature incised and spoon carved pine (per horologist) case with floral medallions, leaf motif, diamonds and grid at base and sides. Brass dial features a round arched top, decorative metal hands with filigree, Roman numerals, date and seconds dials and a ‘strike/silent’ dial. Enclosed in the trunk are two lead clock weights and a round brass pendulum. The clock features a decorative brass escutcheon and it is complete with keys for the case and the clock. This clock was purchased in England from a noted antique clock dealer, M.V. Tooley of Bucks, Lee, Buckinghamshire, England in 1964.
