U.S. Playing Card Co. Commemorative WWII P.O.W. Escape Map Collection
Item Details
A U.S. Playing Card Company commemorative WWII prisoner-of-war escape map collection. This assortment includes a framed commemorative reproduction of the P.O.W. escape map originally concealed in a deck of Bicycle playing cards. The original deck was manufactured during WWII and supplied to U.S. prisoners-of-war held in Germany. When soaked in water, the cards separated and revealed escape routes. This poster was printed in 1990 for the 45th P.O.W. anniversary of the Stalag Luft III. It is matted and housed in a wood-tone frame under clear acrylic glass. It has a hanging wire to the verso. Also included here is an unopened commemorative “Escape Map” pack of Bicycle cards and a reproduction of a Sunday, April 15, 1990 newspaper article from the Parkersburg, Ohio newspaper about the program. It is mounted on foam core board with a cardboard easel to the back.
