Pair of Offset Lithographs After Cecil Aldin's "Pictures From Pickwick"
Item Details
A pair of offset lithographs after original paintings by Cecil Aldin (1870-1935) from the series Pictures From Pickwick, images created for Charles Dickens’ first novel, The Pickwick Papers. The first of the prints, titled Mr. Winkle Partridge Shooting features a robust man being tooled around by his assistant in a blue wheelbarrow, very frightened by another man wielding a hunting rifle. The second piece, titled _ Mr. Stiggins’ Drive with Tony Weller_, illustrates a harebrained carriage ride, with two passengers clearly disturbed by the driver’s recklessness as he smiles slyly. Each of the prints features a quote from the original Dickens book, as well as title and printer information printed to lower margin of matting, and is signed in plate to lower right of each image. Both prints are presented behind a layer of decorative mat, and beneath glass in simple wood frames with natural finish and deep red interior borders. Hanging wires present to verso of each piece.
