Gladys Brown Edwards Original Equine Drypoint Etching
Item Details
An original drypoint etching attributed to well-listed American equine artist Gladys Brown Edwards (1908 – 1989). The print depicts a female trainer leading a horse, likely an Arabian as Brown Edwards was best-known for depicting. The piece uses heavy contrast to accentuate the massive beast’s glossy coat and defined muscle forms. The print is signed in-plate to the lower left, and is marked with the artist name in pencil to the lower right. Brown Edwards was best-known for her three-dimensional horse sculptures, but was also acclaimed for her two-dimensional pieces such as this one. The print is matted in black and presented behind glass in a black composite frame with a hanging wire.
Condition
- paper is slightly yellowed and warped, consistent with age. Small spot of foxing to upper right.
