"The Yonne Canal, France" Etching by F. Roth

An etching with later coloring by Frances Roth titled The Yonne Canal, France . The image of a canal scene in rural France is populated with people in the distance and a boat and thatched cottage in the foreground with a boat. Roth, (French, 1883 – 1932), studied for several years under Palissy and he spent a number of years exhibiting with the French Artist’s Salon until his death.The engraving was published by the Paris Etching Society and Sydney Z. Lucas. The plate is titled to the lower left and signed in graphite by the artist to the lower right. The Paris Etching Society produced etchings from the 1930s through the 1950s. The engraving is double matted and housed in a gold-toned wood frame under glass. A hanging wire and label are affixed to the verso.
