"The Hamlet (France)" Etching by Paul Emile Lecomte

An etching with later coloring by Paul Emile Lecomte titled The Hamlet in France. The image of a riverside street scene in rural France is dotted with half timbered buildings. The engraving was published by the Paris Etching Society and Sydney Z. Lucas. The plate is titled to the lower left and signed in graphite by the artist to the center. Paul Emile Lecomte (French, 1877-1950) studied at the Ecole des Beaux-Arts in Paris and would go on to on to win the gold medal at the 1902 Salon des Artistes Francais. The Paris Etching Society produced etchings from the 1930s through the 1950s. The engraving is double matted and housed in a gold-toned wood frame under glass. A label and hanging wire are attached to the verso.
