Bruce Johnson "New Beginnings" Carved Locust Wood Sculpture

Item Details

An original Bruce Johnson New Beginnings carved locust wood sculpture. This nonrepresentational piece has been formed from the center of the tree, with organic and fluid edges and smooth terrain. Ready to display on attached base.

Bruce Johnson took up carving as a hobby, initially working on bas-reliefs. In 1978 he studied briefly with a noted Baltimore sculptor, who introduced him to the direct carving of three-dimensional abstract forms in wood. He has shown his sculptures in various art shows in Virginia, Maryland and the District of Columbia and has received a number of commissions. In 1985 he retired from a career with the Federal Government to devote more time to his carving.
