Antique Ansonia Mercury Mantel Clock
Item Details
An antique, circa 1882, Ansonia mantel clock featuring a major Roman god, Mercury. The clock is to the right side of the stage and is cased in embossed spelter metal with a gilt coloring. The chapter ring is porcelain with Arabic numeral hours and openwork gilt hands. Neighboring the clock is a spelter figure of Mercury sitting with his legs cross and his head pondering as it rests against his hand while his shield resting near his seat. The clock and figure are attached to a black painted iron base with gilt spelter border and add ornament. The whole thing is supported on spelter by paw feet. The movements are marked ‘Ansonia Clock Co. Patented June 14.81, New York, U.S.A., Patented June 18.1882’. Clock chimes half-hourly, but is untested and does not include a key.

- to fair – untested, no key; missing finial, broken off side ornament, second side ornament loose, cracks to porcelain dial, chips to black paint, Mercury figure slightly loose on stage.
