A signed mixed media abstract painting attributed to Roger Pontbriand per seller. The piece mounted on board features geometric shaped canvas strips with a heavy oil impasto in pastel tones of green, blue, purple and orange. These are set against a mottled buttery cream geometric form framed by a painted robins egg blue background. The board is signed and dated ’66 to lower right and housed in a dusty rose painted wood frame. Roger Pontbriand (American, d. 2012) was a noted illustrator and painter who first joined the Rhode Island School of Design in 1961. From 1973 to 1977 he was Head of the Department of Illustration Studies and retired as an associate professor in 1991. Mr. Pontbriand died in February 2012.
