Original Irving Amen Oil on Stretched Canvas Titled "Lisboa"

An original oil on stretched canvas painting by 20th century artist Irving Amen (NYC 1918-2011) titled ‘Lisboa’. The large painting expressively illustrates a group of seated figures; women, children and a man in bold outline. The figures encompass the entire composition and the paint is applied impasto giving the painting an expressive texture as well. The title of the painting is printed in the upper left hand corner and the artist’s signature in in the lower right over the date ’66. The painting is beautifully presented in a beige linen filet and a carved wood frame in an antiqued gold finish.
Irving Amen studied art at the Pratt Institute then later (1950) in Paris. Other than paintings, he is known for his work in woodblock printing, stained glass and sculpture as well. He is listed in the Dictionary of Contemporary American Artists by Cummings and was elected as a member of the Academia Florentina della Arti Del Disegno which also included Michelangelo as a member. His work can be found i The Museum of Modern Art, NY, The Metropolitan Museum, NY, Boston Museum of Fine Art, The Art Institute of Chicago, The Cincinnati Art Museum, The Smithsonian, Washington DC as well as museums in London, Jerusalem, Brussels, Germany, Austria, New Zealand and Canada.
