Antique Riggs & Brother Ship's Compass with FInger-Jointed Box

A late nineteenth century ship’s compass from Philadelphia-based Riggs & Brother company (1865-1901). The compass itself is made of brass and now sits on an acrylic stand. The paper card has a fleur-de-lis pointing true north and is labeled ‘Riggs & Brother, Philadelphia.’ The original wooden, finger-jointed box has a gold-painted interior and does not have the original lid.

Condition

- to fair – compass has tarnished areas and box shows wear consistent with age.
