Peter Max Signed Limited Edition Serigraph "Roseville Profile"
Item Details
A signed limited edition serigraph on paper by well-listed and renowned German-American Pop artist Peter Max (1937 -), titled Roseville Profile. The image depicts an expressive rendering of a woman’s delicate profile against vivid strokes of blue, purple and red, with flower blossoms popping open at the crown of her head. The print is numbered 140 in an edition of 350 and hand-signed by Max in pencil to the lower margin. It is matted in black with a gold tone fillet and is presented behind acrylic glass in a wide beveled black composite frame with a wire to the verso. Max received his formal art education in the 1950s at the Art Students League of New York in Manhattan, where he studied anatomy, figure drawing and composition under the tutelage of Frank J. Reilly. Max began his career in illustration and graphic arts by creating collage-based works using elements taken from antique photographs. His interest in astronomy led to his self-described “Cosmic ’60s” period, where his art became a symbol of the counter-culture with its flamboyant use of bright rainbow colors and psychedelic images. Max works in multiple forms of media including painting, drawing, collage, printmaking, sculpture, video and digital imagery. American icons such as Bill Clinton, Taylor Swift, and Mohammed Ali appear in his works, along with other elements such as the Statue Of Liberty, peace signs, butterflies, and flying saucers.
