A handwoven Kazak Chelaberd area rug. The rug has a crimson, indigo, and cream colorway with accents of sage, powder blue, and terra cotta. This rug features a crimson field with a central eagle medallion flanked by two large guls with symbolic birds, amulets, eight pointed stars, rosettes, cruciform motifs and hooked forms. The symbolic field is surrounded by barber pole guard borders, ‘s’ hook guard borders on a bright crimson field, and a crisp geometric principal border on contrasting ivory. The corner spandrels feature a hooked triangular form in variegated green with a figural red bird to the center. It has short, grey, natural warp fringe to each end and checked overcast edges.
