A handwoven Pakistani wool area rug. The rug features a warm beige field with four central guls in crimson, black and dark mocha, surrounded by four-pointed lobed flower motifs in taupe, indigo, burnt orange and crimson. It features a_running water_ inner border in red on a black field, and an unresolved principal border in ivory with star forms in the same palette. The outermost border has a rich indigo field with a running water and carnation pattern in crimson and mocha with cruciform shapes as a highlight element. It has a woven, sapphire blue cotton kilim skirt with embroidered finish elements, and a natural cotton warp fringe to either end. Tagged to reverse, ‘Essa Khel & Co.
