Hiroaki Takahashi Original Japanese Woodblock "A Starlit Night"

An original early-20th-century antique Japanese woodblock print by very well-listed Japanese printmaker Takahashi Hiroaki (高橋弘明, 1871–1945), also known as Shōtei. The shin-hanga style print is titled A Starlit Night, and is printed in the Mitsugiri format. It depicts two figures walking along a pond under a deep black night sky dotted with twinkling stars. The title is printed in white to the right edge, and the artist’s Shōtei seal is printed in a double-gourd shaped cartouche just below this. The print is matted in white and presented behind glass in a carved wooden frame with black and gold tone finish and a hanging wire.
Condition
- back of frame is missing, and print is coming very loose. Light scratching to frame, which is separating at corners.
