Early 19th Century Georgian Mahogany Linen Press

Item Details

A 19th century Georgian mahogany linen press, circa 1820. The upper section features a projecting, dentilated cornice above a fluted frieze relieved by flowerheads. The two hinged doors are embellished with figured panels and open to a four-shelf interior. The lower section has two aligned over two long, dovetailed drawers. The cockbeaded fronts are fitted with brass bail handles and inset with shaped, brass key surrounds. It all rises on a molded base with bracket feet. The back of the cornice retains a tag reading ‘Property of the Misses Harper’ / ‘Warehoused’ / ‘January 19th, 1903.’ / ‘No. 104’.

Condition

- some minor surface wear, including some small chips and nicks to edges and a couple of small shrinkage cracks.
- a small stain to interior of upper section with some expected scuff marks from opening and closing the doors.
- loss to beading on right door near lower left corner.
