Vintage Handwoven Kurdish Kakaberu Carpet Runner
Item Details
A vintage handwoven Kurdish Kakaberu carpet runner, likely from the Senneh region of western Iran. The rug has two large indigo medallions resembling Talish ‘turtle’ designs, with hooked top and bottom and serrated sides with a colorway of saffron, indigo and , in a pole style running the length on a bright red-orange crenellated lozenge. Smaller star medallions and protective amulets are scattered across the field in indigo, ruby, tangerine and white. It has orange, indigo, taupe and white barber pole guard borders, and a principal border of eight-pointed stars in harmonious colors. The large corner spandrels feature a bright red field with a ‘lightening bolt’ motif. It has a large area of abrash to the center.The rug has a short, natural wool warp fringe to either end, and is unmarked.
Condition
- the rug has overall wear and a 2" tear in one end, condition consistent with age.
