Victorian "Belton-Type" French Bisque Head Doll with Wood Composition Body

A Victorian 18’ antique bisque porcelain ‘Belton-Type’ doll possibly German but most likely French from circa 1870-1900. This doll features blue glass eyes with delicate hand painted face, closed mouth, pierced ears and contemporary curled wig. The dolls body features seventeen piece composition and wood ball jointed construction with early straight wrists and separate ball joints at the knee, hip, elbow, and shoulder, with no maker’s mark present. The doll includes her original blonde animal hide wig which is a bit soiled and matted. The head is faintly marked with ‘112’ under the wig, with small ‘12’ near neck. The doll wears no clothing and includes a dated 1987 private appraisal for reference.

Condition

- normal wear of soil and scuffing consistent with age and display. The right leg knee appears to have been repaired with overall small chips to the body.
