English Brass Sanctuary Door Knocker

A decorative face brass door knocker. A brass door knocker of a animal face that is designed after the Sanctuary knocker on the northern door of the Durham Cathedral in Britain. In olden times fugitives from the law were allowed to enter the sanctuary and confess their crimes without fear of
arrest before leaving the country. Door knocker measures 4.5 inches long and 6.5 inches wide and there are no marks on the back.
It mounts on the reverse side. Included is a separate piece that says Ye Durham Knocker – 1133. Wt.1 lb. 2oz
