A Chinese Pidan Egg Pot and artificial tree. This urn features a brown glazed, stoneware urn base with a raised and etched motif of dragons. This pot was used to make pidan, which are preserved eggs that resulting in a dark green yolk surrounded by a dark brown, translucent jelly. The preservation process uses clay, ash, salt, rice hulls, and quicklime and can take several weeks or months. The pot has been styles as a planter and is presented here with an artificial tree with silk leaves.
