Peter Max Mixed Media Painted Print "Full Liberty with Flag"

Item Details

An original mixed media offset lithograph with hand-painted acrylic details on paper by well-listed and renowned German-American Pop artist Peter Max (1937 -), titled Full Liberty with Flag from the artist’s Patriotic Series. The piece depicts the Statue of Liberty layered over the American flag, all printed and painted in surreal bright, playful colors. The print is signed in paint to the lower left. It is double-matted in black linen with gold filet and is presented behind acrylic glass in a composite frame with black finish and a hanging wire. A Certificate of Authenticity and an appraisal, both from Park West Gallery, are also included. Max received his formal art education in the 1950s at the Art Students League of New York in Manhattan, where he studied under the tutelage of Frank J. Reilly. Max began his career in illustration and graphic arts by creating collage-based works using elements taken from antique photographs. His interest in astronomy led to his self-described “Cosmic ’60s” period, where his art became a symbol of the counter-culture with its flamboyant use of bright rainbow colors and psychedelic images. American icons such as Bill Clinton, Taylor Swift, and Mohammed Ali appear in his works, along with other elements such as the Statue Of Liberty, peace signs, butterflies, and flying saucers.
