Paul Chidlaw Acrylic on Panel Painting "Dawn's Early Whisper"

An original acrylic on panel abstract landscape painting titled Dawn’s Early Whisper by well-listed American artist Paul Chidlaw (1900-1989), created in 1968. The painting depicts a landscape through thick patches of vibrant and textured paint conveying a lush landscape under a dark sky. It is signed in white to the lower right. There is a label from Miller Gallery to the verso. Presented without glass in a gilt frame with white linen lining and a wire to the verso.

Paul Chidlaw was born in Cleves, Ohio and studied at both the Cincinnati Art Academy and L’Ecole des Beaux Arts in Fontainebleau, France. He returned to Cincinnati where he then taught at the Art Academy mentoring many students. He was considered a pioneer of the Abstract movement, at the time, and he remains one of Cincinnati’s best-loved native artists. His artwork is displayed at the Cincinnati Art Museum and Xavier University.
