A pre-war 1935 L-12 model Gibson acoustic archtop guitar. The classic guitar was produced as the famous guitar company became a household name, produced after the flagship L-5 model of the same era. L-12 models were produced in Kalamazoo, Michigan, between 1935 and 1941. The guitar features shell inlay to the headstock, rosewood fretboard, spruce top, maple back and sides, and a mahogany neck.Double-parallelagram fingerboard inlays and seven-piece diamond/star shaped peghead inlay. Strap bottom added to heel. The natural finish is intact; checking to the varnish layer. Updated with a circa 1950 tailpiece; possibly newer tuners. The guitar has a paper label to the interior, indicating craftmanship at Gibson in Kalamazoo, Michigan. Serial number 92394. This guitar has been authenticated by Gibson.
Condition
- crack forming to top seam by tailpiece with back center seam beginning to separate at the bottom and top. The guitar is dry and needs humidifying. Scratching to top from age and use. Pickguard is deteriorating and not held securely in place. Checking to the finish from age. Updated with a circa 1950 tailpiece; possibly newer tuners. Binding on neck seems to have issue from the deterioration of the guard.
