A hand-knotted Anatolian Basmakçi area rug from the Afyonkarahisar Province, Turkey. The rug has a vivid carmine red field featuring a large, hexagonal, hooked pendant medallion in bright white, bright blue, carmine red and silver sage. Star and floral medallions in the same palette surround the central feature, repeating the color scheme. The central lozenge is stepped, with wheat-toned hooks flanking pale blue spandrels in red and wheat colors. The rug has a compound border with floral and geometric patterning, highlighting a complex eagle’s beak border in blue and red against an ivory field. The rug has a red wool kilim skirt edged in orange, with hand-braided and tied fringe to either end. Tagged to reverse, ‘Made in Turkey, 100% Wool.’
