19th c. Chinoiserie Papier Mâché Writing Box on Game Table Stand
Item Details
A late 19th century English or American inlaid papier mâché Chinoiserie writing desk on game table base. The removable writing box features inlaid abalone and mother-of-pearl and hand-painted decoration on a black lacquered surface. The top open to reveal a velvet writing surface, lacquered paper-lined letter slots, and an ink bottle. The game board rests on scrolled supports, has one drawer, and a molded edge where the writing box rests. The piece has a painted village scene on the top. The surfaces are heavily inlaid with mother of pearl, and feature gilt details on a black lacquered ground.
Condition
Wear consistent with age and use. There is no key for the drawer lock.
