G.W. Waters Oil on Canvas

An original oil painting of a woman with a small child by George Wellington Waters (American 1832-1912). The painting depicts a dark haired woman, whose arm rests on a musical instrument as she watches the child. The artist was primarily known for his landscapes, but he was also a portrait painter. Waters drew inspiration from the wilderness areas of the northeast, the Adirondacks and the White Mountains being two of his favorite locations. The piece is framed in an ornate cream color vintage frame. There is the remnant of a paper label from the artist’s studio in Elmira, New York affixed to the back of the piece.

Wear consistent with age and use.
