Ben Shahn Original Vintage WWII Propaganda Poster "We French Workers Warn You... Defeat Means Slavery, Starvation, Death"
Item Details
A vintage offset lithograph World War II poster published in 1942 by the United States Government Printing Office, titled We French workers warn you… defeat means slavery, starvation, death, with imagery after a painting by well-listed social-realist artist Ben Shahn (1898 – 1969), signed in plate to the lower right. The powerful imagery depicts a crowd of French working men raising their arms as if under arrest; behind them is an official decree posted from the Vichy government. This persuasive poster was designed to increase war production at home. The story of the French occupation contributed to America’s decision to enter the war. This poster is not framed, awaiting presentation of choice.
