Original H.H. Wessel Etching
Item Details
A fine original etching by listed artist Herman Henry Wessel (Ohio, 1878 – 1969), title, written in the margin to the lower left, ‘A Lone Fisherman,’ signed in pencil in the lower right, year unknown, unknown edition size, full margins, plate size 6 × 6.′
An incredible dry point etching, depicting a lone and dedicated fisherman standing before his boat, wading in the water, about to embark on a day full of hard work. The line work is dark and sumptuous, exemplary of the burred dry point line. This print is presented in the original wooden frame with black paint and gold border, with a single white mat to edge, archival matting, hinged to the backing mat. Wessel was a student of Frank Duveneck, and his works are featured in the Cincinnati Art Museum’s Cincinnati Wing, as well as in the Smithsonian.
