Antique Handwoven Caucasian Area Rug
Item Details
An antique handwoven Caucasian area rug. The rug is vegetable dyed, with a deep indigo blue field covered with a rectilinear herati pattern in madder red, camel, mocha brown, bright blue and touches of green. It has a barber pole guard border with two bright blue guard borders having a stylized carnation pattern. The principal border has an ivory field with large-scale stylized floral pattern in complementary colors. It has a natural, undyed warp fringe to either end, and is unmarked. Per the consignor, the rug was made circa 1870-1880.

Condition
- to fair for age. Fiber loss evident, with wear to the edges. Madder color has faded over time.
