Exotic Gold Pendant and Necklace
Item Details
An exotic gold pendant and necklace. The pendant is a copy of a famous ancient Malia Minoan (Grecian) double wasp pendant, circa 1700-1550 BCE, one of the first to show soldering technique in goldsmithing (bronze age). It is marked ‘281 – 750’ to the verso, depicts two intricately fashioned, joined wasps, with their legs resting on a round medallion with tiny gold beads. Three gold dangles hang from the wasps’ wings and from the center of their joined bodies, with gold wire wrapping the stems, and round circles surrounded with raised gold beads. The wasps are connected to a caged gold ball above their heads, to which the pendant hanging loop is attached. The pendant comes with a twenty-four inch 14k gold braided chain necklace with a locking safety clasp. Both tested as marked. Total estimated weight, 8.68 dwt.
