John Rettig Original 1912 High Relief Sculpture

A high relief plaster cast sculpted plaque by Cincinnati born artist John Rettig (1855 – 1932). This piece was created in 1912 for the Convent of the Sisters of Saint Ursuline in Brown County, Ohio. This depiction is of an angel of peace. It is signed and inscribed by the artist to the Sisters in the upper left corner. Rettig studied under Frank Duveneck at the Cincinnati Art Academy. He worked as a muralist, painter and modeler of Rookwood pottery.

Condition

-Crackling and minor paint loss present. The back is rough, and appears to have been repaired at sometime.
