A Luchow’s Restaurant Beer Stein Ashtray. A collectible stoneware ashtray originated from one of New York’s most famous restaurant and extremely popular from 1882 to the 1970s. Luchow’s was a German restaurant famous for its food and beer and this piece highlights the popularity of the restaurant’s craft with a beer stein located in the middle featuring the image of an older gentleman smoking a pipe accented with the help of the navy blue glaze. Along the rim of the ashtray is the restaurant’s name, year established, and its location, New York City. These ashtray’s were placed on every table in the restaurant and represent a piece of New York City’s German heritage, incised Germany to underside.
