Tomoo Inagaki Woodblock Print "Cat At Sunset", Signed and Numbered
Item Details
A woodblock print titled Cat At Sunset by Tomoo Inagaki (Japanese, 1902-1980). The print illustrates the artist’s signature subject; a seated cat with yellow eyes against a swirling orange background. The print is an excellent impression with the colors remaining vivid. Signed and Numbered 28/50 in the lower margin where the title is pencil written in Japanese (English translation at the back). The print is presented under glass in presumably the original red wood frame.
Tomoo Inagaki was born in Tokyo and attended the Okura Commercial High School, he then studied further with print-makers Onchi and Hiratsuka but considered himself mostly self-taught. After WWII, Tomoo established a niche for himself selling his stylized cat prints to avid collectors, his art is appreciated by cat lovers and mid-century art aficionados as well.
Condition
Rice paper a bit wrinkled at bottom margin but paint remains very vivid.
