Martin Rettig Original Oil Still Life Painting

A vintage original oil on canvas painting by well-listed painter and Rookwood Pottery decorator Martin Rettig (Cincinnat, Ohio, 1869 – 1956), dated 1944. The image depicts a floral still life of red and yellow roses arranged in a cylindrical vase, set on a tabletop next to an opened book marked with a black and white photograph of a man’s portrait. Artist signature is signed and dated in blue paint to the lower right. The painting is mounted in a beveled wood frame with carved corners and a gilt finish. A hanging wire is attached to the verso. Rettig studied with prolific painter Frank Duveneck and shared a studio space with Henry Farny in his early painting career, and was president of the Cincinnati Art Club from 1918 – 1920.

- light wear to finish of frame. Painting is not mounted securely within frame.
