Elegant "Pak-Tabriz" Hand Knotted Wool Area Rug

Item Details

An elegant hand-knotted Pak-Tabriz wool area rug. This lovely rug has a very large central lozenge in ivory with a deep blue-black central pendant medallion, edged in pale rose with garnet red. The medallion features arabesques of moss green and ruby red palmette and vine motifs, with open flower blossoms surrounding. The interstitial space is densely populated with large vase forms, from which emanate large sprays of palmettes and blossoms, with serrated and sickle leaves in the same palette, accented with pale peach, steel grey and deep hunter green. The ruby red spandrels feature very large pendant vase forms with a small checked pattern, surrounded by blossoms and leaves in similar tones. The compound border is complex, in ivory, black, ruby, moss green and taupe, with generous motifs of large palmettes and stacked flower blossoms. It has a thick warp fringe to either end; likely woven in Pakistan.
