1888 Elgin Pocket Watch with Late 19th Century Gold Filled Case

A 1888 Elgin pocket watch with late 19th century rose gold filled Crescent Watch Case Co. This watch has a white dial decorated with black Roman numerals, slender spade hands, an inlaid seconds dial and is marked ‘Elgin Nat’l Watch Co.’ to the center. The dial is set in an intricately carved rose gold filled bezel with a ring finial to the top. The reverse has an etched elk and broad acanthus and flower border. The back opens to the movement which has a safety pinion which allows the mainspring to be safe from quickly moving the opposite direction and damaging the timepiece. The movement is marked ‘Elgin Nat’l Watch Co. 3135582, Safety Pinion, Elgin Ill.’ The back is marked ‘Patented C.W.C. Co. Trademark 955638’ to the interior.
