A trio of Russian Palekh lacquer boxes with a Russian Legends collector plate with COA. These hand painted miniature boxes by artisans of the Palekh region of Russia feature hinged lids with red interiors. The hexagon-shaped box features a mermaid with long golden hair and is signed to the front. The rectangular box with rounded corners depicts a woman carrying a water vessel on her shoulder, and the other rectangular box depicts a beggar conversing with a man in regal attire. It bears an inscription to the lower edge. The Bradford Exchange collector plate is the first of the Russian Legends Collection and is titled ‘Rusian and Ludmilla.’ This Russian folklore scene is painted by master artist Gleb Vasilevitch Lubimov in a rich palette for which the Palekh miniatures are known; fire red, yellow, cool green and white with gold gilded detail. It is painted in the classical style of Russian icon painting and is based on a poem by Alexander Pushkin. This plate is stored in the original box with Certificate of Authorization. It is numbered E 2905.
