Item Details

A set of antique Nanking Cargo porcelain teapot and cups. These Chinese Export porcelain pieces were aboard the Geldermalsen in 1752 returning to the Netherlands when the ship struck a reef and sank in the South China Sea. The cargo of the ship was recovered by Captain Michael Hatcher in 1985 and sold by Christie’s as ‘The Nanking Cargo’. This set includes a porcelain teapot featuring a blue garden view detail, two teacups with a blue floral design on the body and a blue patterned rim, and one saucer with a blue floral design and a blue patterned rim. The cups and saucers each have a Christie’s tag on the bottom.
