An 1808 Carolus IIII Dei Gratia Potosi 8 real silver coin. The City of Potosi in southwestern Bolivia was the Spanish Colonial Viceroyalty of Peru at the time of this coin’s minting.The coin, of a 90% silver purity bears the profile of King Charles IV of Spain is on the obverse, his royal coat of arm flanked by pillars on the reverse. The edge bears the rectangle, circle, rectangle pattern to the edge, created by using a two bar edger. Coins such as these were circulated freely as trade dollars for exported goods in a number of Spanish New World colonies.
