A Movado Museum women’s watch. Movado (estab. 1881) introduced the modernist Museum collection in 1947, designed by American artist Nathan George Horwitt, who created the single dot at ‘12’ to represent the sun at high noon. It was accessioned by MOMA in 1960, thus earning it’s ‘Museum’ name. This Swiss made 84.A1.845 quartz watch features a black face and a sapphire crystal. The black leather band is from Stuller and size 12R. The original Museum Dial watch: When Horwitt’s dial design was selected for the permanent collection of the Museum of Modern Art, New York, in 1960, it became the first watch dial ever awarded this distinction. The name “Museum Watch” derives from this recognition.
