Luella Shirley Original Oil Landscape Painting

A vintage original oil on canvas painting of a mountainous desert landscape signed in blue paint to the lower right by artist Luella Shirley, circa 1970. The image depicts a sun-drenched adobe dwelling with a red tiled roof amidst a forest of bright green cacti, purple slate mountains resting against a blue sky. The painting is mounted behind a linen liner in a carved wood frame with a distressed gilt finish. The image is wonderfully impressionistic and reflective of the renaissance in painting that was happening at the time. The bent here however is intensely southwestern and wonderfully textural. A hanging wire is attached to the verso. Handwritten text in ink to the verso reads, ‘Collection Karl Richard Besuden Niehoff 1972’.
