Vintage Freemason Cerificate "From Darkness to Light"

Item Details

A vintage offset lithographic Masonic certificate with bold letters printed to the bottom reading, ‘From Darkness to Light.’ The certificate is partially filled out in ink by hand, addressed to someone named Jack Hester, with dates marked in 1968. This person was likely in pursuit of the title of Master Mason, the certificate showing the necessary steps a freemason must take on his journey from ‘darkness to light.’ The certificate depicts a montage of cryptic Biblical and fraternal order symbolic imagery, including the ‘All-Seeing Eye’ overlooking King Solomon’s Temple with stars and moon, Noah’s ark and a rainbow, a funeral procession, and a blind-folded woman holding the Scales of Justice on her head with one hand and a sword in the other. The original certificate was printed in 1887 by the Pettibone Manufacturing Company Fraternity Brothers, Military Band and Society Goods of Cincinnati, Ohio. This piece is set behind glass in a beveled wood frame with a green painted finish and hanging wire to the verso.
