Victorian Eastlake-Style Rocker with Tapestry Upholstery

A rocking chair with maple finish, made in the Victorian Eastlake style. Overall features of wooden frame are gently curved stiles, with notched top crest rail, and short decorative spindles above large center upholstered back. The scroll-cut arms rest on the squared seat, and the base of chair has turned legs with dowel stretcher supports. This chair features burgundy tapestry upholstery with a a large central floral pattern. Upholstery panels are attached to frame by means of small brads along ribbon edging. Frame is constructed with phillips head screws where arms are attached to body; other spots have small round iron nails joining pieces together. Wood has smooth, worn surface.

Condition

- wood cracked to front edge of seat. Surface wear to wood finish consistent with age and use; some soiling to fabric. Damage to stile top edge on one side.
