Item Details

An engraving by well listed antiquarian behemoth of engraving on laid paper, a godly draftsmen of the sixteenth century Pietro da Cortona (1650 – 1692), ‘The Rape of the Sabine Women.’ This immaculately conceived engraving features the backlash following a wild celebration of the gods, a gala of divine debauchery, it would now appear that there’s consequences, hell to pay, published circa 1670-1692 by Giovanni Giacomo de Rossi, the engraving by Pietro Aquilla. Truly an incredible print exemplary of master engravers, and the tradition they helped carry on through the ages, such as Albrecht Durer and Ugo da Carpi. Framed in a black wooden frame with gold border and a cloth wrapped mat to edge.
